If you cannot find a matching strap for your
garment, you can make it yourself using the following instructions from
the "Kwik•Sew Method for Sewing Lingerie", copyright 1978.
1. Cut a 36" length of tricot along the
grain 1" wide. Fold the band double length wise, right sides together.
2. Sew a seam as close to the fold as you
want the finished strap to be. For a flat strap, trim excess tricot to
stitches. Turn strap to right side.
Turning a strap: Place a piece of narrow ribbon
inside the strip before you sew it. Sew one end of the ribbon to the fabric.
Sew the seam with the ribbon inside. Now pull on the ribbon and you will
turn the strap right side out. Cut this strap in half and use for straps.

| Sewing with tricot |

Do not pre wash. The sides will roll and you
will have a terrible time keeping the seams flat. Use a ball point needle
and extra fine thread in a conventional machine. Woolly nylon thread is
suggested for the lower loopers of your serger, but regular serger thread
will work. Never use a hot iron on tricot. It will melt. With lingerie,
you can always sew a bow, applique, or ribbon over a mistake and no one
will be the wiser. Machine wash warm, dry low. Remove immediately. |
